Award-winning artist and graphic designer Cindy Shake, works in several mediums including fiber arts, metal sculpture, and textile design. Today, the full-time artist works creating quilt patterns, direct to print textiles from original graphic artwork, and new forms of handcrafted, sewn media from her studio in Girdwood, Alaska where she lives with her husband, children, and two Boxers, Boomer and Betty. She has designed a collection of limited edition fabric as well as art quilt patterns with the mission of balancing commerce and creativity while mentoring the next generation of makers the artisan way. Most of her works start with an inspired hand-drawn design in her small, black notebook, then for industry purposes progresses to the computer using various design programs especially for her patterns and fabric design. It’s not unusual for her to work on several projects at once, in several mediums, all in various phases of design, cutting, finishing, sewing, painting, or installation. Shake’s artwork work is featured in private collections across the United States and Europe and included in the national publications of The Artful Home. Cindy’s illustrations are featured in two alphabet books, both having been selected by Apple for inclusion in the iTunes store as iBooks.
